Label (all printed except the “1911”):

Forarbeidet 1911

Asmund E. Sandland

Brunkeberg     Telemarken

Repaired “smash” on lower treble top. Solid now, but remains visible. Arching of lower top very uneven.

Flattened out distortion of back where chin rest was.

Fixed distortion of lower bass rib.

Shortened lower ribs to regain “margin” for ribs to be glued to top and back.

Neck was butted up against upper ribs, and glued solidly only to the button. I removed the neck. The upper block had grain horizontal. I replaced the upper block with willow, with grain running vertically.

Added linings (willow) everywhere.

Cleaned up fingerboard and tailpiece, replaced missing pearl.

Added "shoe" to neck. Mortised neck into the body and upper block in the standard modern way.

Bushed all eight peg holes. New pegs.

Replaced missing wood at one corner of the top.

Replaced missing pearl at three places.

Removed old glue squeeze-out where ribs meet the top and back. This left a lot of missing varnish. A lot of retouch.

New sound-post, chin rest, tail “gut”, string hooks, fine tuner for E string, strings, bridge, nut, pegs, understring guide.

After all this, it's a solid instrument.  Looks quite nice, and has a good sound.
